Teachers
Our studio is only as good as our teachers. And we are very proud of our school, and thus our teachers. Their commitment, passion and dedication to providing the very best Yoga classes and instruction are admirable. As a group, they are incredibly well trained, experienced and talented. As individuals, they each have their own unique style, approach and creativity to bring to their classes and their students. All of our teachers have participated in our rigorous, highly respected Teacher Training programs or an equivalent training program (min: 200, most at the 500 hour levels from Yoga Alliance or the equivalent).
We believe you cannot teach what you do not practice and thus, we screen our teachers to make sure each one of them has experienced firsthand the incredible transformative power of Yoga and are real and honest practitioners of this art and science. We are honored to have them on our teaching staff.

Hilary Anne Brown, American born and living in the Netherlands since 1997, is the founder of Yoga Moves which she opened in Utrecht in summer of 2001. A native Californian, Hilary has studied and practiced many forms of yoga, healing arts, massage & bodywork and dance since the early 1980's. She holds a teacher certificates in Iyengar and Vinyasa yoga (It's Yoga, Shiva Rea) and is recognized by Yoga Alliance as an experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT500). She has studied with numerous known and unknown yogis to whom she is ever grateful, and which she finds a silly exercise to mention all their names in a bio! She is teaching primarily a lyrical form of vinyasa yoga, a fluid but precise, dynamic yet relaxed method that incorporates the breath as a focus of moving meditation. She teaches with sensitivity to letting people discover what yoga can bring to their life in a real and tangible way. Breath is always a theme in her work, but equally understanding and feeling what you are doing. Alignment is always a key ingredient and joy is a natural outcome of her teaching. Sometimes you will laugh, cry or dance in her classes! Hilary is a committed yogi that will help you take a step closer to your self.
Hiske was born and raised in the Netherlands. Her first contact with yoga was at the age of 11, through the book The king, the cat and the fiddle by Yehudi Menuhin. Intrigued by the yoga poses Menuhin described for young violinists, she started exploring Hatha Yoga. Years later, as a student and part-time group fitness instructor, she started to take yoga classes regularly. A couple of years after discovering Yoga Moves and taking classes with Hilary, she enrolled in the teacher-training program, and started to teach when she finished it.
Since that time she completed the three-year Iyengar yoga teacher-training program at the Iyengar Yoga Institute in Amsterdam with Clé Souren, Charles Hond and Annemieke Post. She is a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher since 2009. Along with her teacher training she participated in many workshops with internationally renowned teachers, amongst others a workshop with BKS Iyengar in Moscow, and a 7-day intensive with Geeta Iyengar in London. She continues to take regular classes and workshops with several senior Iyengar Yoga teachers. In 2010 she studied for a month with the Iyengars at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Institute in Puna, India. Since 2011, she is certified at the Junior Intermediate 1-level.

A competitive swimmer and passionate surfer for many years, I am used to dealing with the constraints of tight, short muscles. My personal experience has taught me what Pilates and yoga can do for your body, particularly when combined with the right food, sleep and attitude.
With a natural thirst for knowledge and new experiences, I have traveled extensively throughout my life, and love the energy that movement, nature, music, creativity and self-awareness can bring. It is an honor to help each of my clients increase awareness of their bodies, minds and souls and tap into the energy that lies within them!
A certified Pilates instructor since 2007, I use both mat and reformer in my classes (a special machine for Pilates exercises). Working with all kinds of clients has deepened my fascination for the human body, health and wellbeing.
In December 2010 I qualified as an Ashtanga Yoga teacher and in 2011 I became certified in Vinyasa yoga at the Yoga Moves Teacher Training program Utrecht. My passion for yoga has led and still leads me to classes and workshops across the world.
My ongoing thirst for new awareness and connection and my natural curiosity mean I constantly seek opportunities to learn how I can better serve those I meet. In addition to my yoga and Pilates practice, I am constantly inspired by music of all kinds, the natural world around us, travel to new places and the people I encounter.
I look forward to sharing my passion, knowledge and awareness with you.
Ever since her childhood, classical and modern ballet have been Jose’s passion. In her teenage years she became interested in psychology and philosophy and since then has become more engaged in self-development, increasing her awareness and enjoying the magic of the present moment. After studying Journalism and, in part Social Therapy, Jose worked for a few years as a therapist in various institutions in Holland. Unsatisfied with that line and method of work, she decided to look for a different and more holistic way of working with people.
Jose started practicing yoga seriously in 2006, in Barcelona, and was greatly inspired by its potential for healing at a physical, emotional and spiritual level. She saw the possibilities of combining her interests, therapeutic and dance experiences with yoga classes. After a Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) of 200 hours Yoga Alliance (YA) in August 2006, she started teaching a mix of Hatha, Vinyasa and Vini Yoga (Yang Yoga) in Barcelona. At the end of 2006 she discovered Yin Yoga and since then, this has been her primary passion and specialization. Jose started teaching Yin Yoga classes in 2007.
Jose’s classes are guided in a warm, clear and hopefully humorous way, with compassion by adapting the practice where necessary to the student’s specific needs. She encourages you to experience, observe and become aware of your bodily sensations, emotions, quality of breath, intuition, thoughts and habitual patterns. Her goal is to stimulate you to discover, to strengthen, to trust, to accept and to be happy with yourself the just the way you are.
Jose has completed several workshops and a Yin Yoga YTT (200hYA) with Paul Grilley, several workshops with Sarah Powers, a Vini Yoga immersion with T.K.V Desikachar in India and a couple of Anusara Yoga immersions. Jose has also studied other styles of Yoga including Yoga Dinámico, Iyengar anKriya Vajra Yoga. She is a regular practitioner of Vipassana and Shamatha Vipaysana meditation.
The breath is magic to Jurre “It takes me to places in the body, that might feel like inner to outer space.” His classes are focused on moving with the breath, being the breath and using this to find space and peace. Practising with different teachers, like Prem Carlisi, Heather Duplex and Rolf Naujokat, inspired him to deepen his practice in a 500hr teacher training at Brahmani Yoga in Goa India. Here he started to practice with Ken 'the Rolfer' and later assisted him at YogaSala in 2009. After assisting Ken 'the Rolfer' in Istanbul, Jurre is substituting the Ashtanga program at YogaSala for Ken. A mission Jurre has in the Netherlands, to get more yoga in the prisons as an transformative practice to enjoy life. Apart for this Jurre is also teaching outside prisons, because he feels the biggest prison is the mind! After being in Mysore and practising with Sarasvati Jois, left him with the wish to practice with Sharath Rangaswamy 'Jois'.
Breath and feel free!
Kim started yoga a few years ago when her best friend recognized her struggle with daily life; the combination of a busy job and a young family. Since that day, Kim didn’t let go of yoga anymore.
In 2010 she finished a Hatha Yoga training and started the intense Vinyasa Teacher Training at Yoga Moves (2011). Meanwhile, the busy job is history. Currently she teaches yoga with lots of pleasure in and around Utrecht.
“Effortless effort and breath control gives that wonderful feeling which grows every day. Almost without a notice you learn about yourself more and more, which makes it easier to make the right choices. Acquire stillness brings balance in all you do.”
Kim’s classes are strong, simple and relaxing with a smile. Joy is leading!
Lara is from early age trained as a classical and modern dancer. Her dance career stopped after 10 years because of a persistent back injury, which brought her on the path of yoga and meditation. In the practice of yoga her spiritual hunger was satisfied. She found then what she was actually doing already for so long. The way of reflection and connection.
Her training ts a professional dancer formed a good basis for the discipline which is necessaryfor the yogapad. Lara is practising yoga since 1998. Since 2009 she works as a teacher. Lara has completed the 3 year Iyengar Yoga teacher training in Amsterdam. There, she was trained by Cle Souren, Charles Hond, Annemieke Post, Dililah King and Rembert Petrus. In addition she follows workshops of senior teachers from The Netherlands and abroad. In 2012 she will study at the Iyengar Yoga Institute in Pune.
'The body gives us the opportunity to be here. We must therefore look good after our body '. Iyengar yoga helps to keep my body strong and healthy. So I can live happy, creative, energetic and grateful. I would like to give through this experience to my students.'
I consider teaching a beautiful, intensive and fascinating experience. I hope to keep teaching for many more years.

Rogier came to yoga from an athletic background. His specialisation was 400 meter hurdles. “Competing at the highest of one’s capabilities, being fully in the moment with the mind completely focussed on only the next hurdle to come, staying relaxed even when the going gets tough – I have run magical races, although they were rare, in which everything seemed to happen of its self.”
But sports have a downside: injury. And injuries came. And they came more and more. In the end they prevented Rogier from reaching his former levels of competition. It was at that time that he discovered yoga. After a while of practice he started to have similar ‘flow-experiences’ as he had as an athlete, but now without any sense of competition. Surprisingly, through the yoga practice his injuries diminished and eventually disappeared all together. “It felt as if yoga was taking care of my body again.”
In yoga also Rogier’s education as a scientist and his interests in psychology and philosophy come together. He feels a deep gratitude and love for the yoga way of life. “In the end yoga is nothing special: it’s about living and being human. Yoga provides the tools.
