Teachers

Our studio is only as good as our teachers. And we are very proud of our school, and thus our teachers. Their commitment, passion and dedication to providing the very best Yoga classes and instruction are admirable. As a group, they are incredibly well trained, experienced and talented. As individuals, they each have their own unique style, approach and creativity to bring to their classes and their students. All of our teachers have participated in our rigorous, highly respected Teacher Training programs or an equivalent training program (min: 200, most at the 500 hour levels from Yoga Alliance or the equivalent).

We believe you cannot teach what you do not practice and thus, we screen our teachers to make sure each one of them has experienced firsthand the incredible transformative power of Yoga and are real and honest practitioners of this art and science. We are honored to have them on our teaching staff.

Anna's interest in yoga started unconsciously since she was little and after experimenting with a few styles and different teachers, she came across Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga and her teachers Radha and Pierre. Anna spend many summers studying, working and living with them in their retreat center in beautiful island of Crete. Working with them for three to four months in summer with a small group of staff and a lot of demanding guests was intense experience but in the long run rewarding. She learned not only about asana practise but also about group psychologyand human interrelationships and their delicacy. Anna feels lucky to receive so much attention and love from her teachers in these one on one trainings. This relationship is still to this days one of the most important relationships in her life. Anna is also very grateful to Sharat Rangaswami Jois for his kind teachings and to indian nation in general as she has learned a lot on her travels there.

Anna also takes an interest in shiatsu, japanese healing technique and studied with amazing Japanese teacher Kazunori Sasaki. He deepened her understanding that  the universe is within us never outside. What we realize we see. Anna also offers shiatsu treatments.

Since 1990 Anoshe stayed with spiritual teachers , Osho and Poonjaji, on her innerquest. That was till she met her Indian mentor Purnanand, with whom she travelled through Kashmir, Himalayas and around the world, participating in long silent retreats. She came to understand the profound effect of meditation, which influences her yoga classes today. Together with her husband and alone she teaches on yogaretreats and workshops from beginners to yogateachers around teh world. She lived 20 years in Australia. Anoshe is trained by Louisa Sears herself and a fully certified yogateacher. She teaches a dynamic fluid vinyasa.

In 2001 - working in the high-tech industry as an online communication specialist - I reluctantly joined a fellow colleague for my first Iyengar yoga class. I didn’t think it would be my cup of tea but I was quickly proved wrong. I liked the active form of doing asanas, the precision that comes with it and the physical/mental benefits. As a web and graphic designer I spend a lot of time behind a computer and it is my experience that yoga counteracts the shortening of the front of the body, lengthens the muscles and energizes the spine.

After a traumatic experience during child birth when my first daughter was born, Yoga actually has helped me on an emotional level to process what happened then. I have never had doubts that I did something wrong that could have led to the difficult labour I experienced back then. Actually I couldn't wait to pick up Yoga practice again soon to get back into shape and benefit from all the poses on a psycho-physiological level. Although Yoga asanas develop consciousness of the body, they also generate internal consciousness and are stabilising the mind.

I am a certified Iyengar yoga teacher and have been teaching actively since 2007. Teaching opened a new dimension for me and I enjoy helping other students by sharing the knowledge I’ve gained so far. In my classes I believe in first creating a firm foundation then gradually building up to go deeper into the practice. The practice is challenging but clear and precise. I love seeing how each individual student's bodies and their relationships with their bodies change during a class. Seeing students in savasana and noticing how much they have changed since they first entered the class room is just wonderful and that makes me very happy.

I am very grateful to having found the path of yoga and the changes it has brought up within me and my surroundings. I feel extremely privileged to be able to share this with my students.

Hilary Anne Brown, American born and living in the Netherlands since 1997, is the founder of Yoga Moves which she opened in Utrecht in summer of 2001. A native Californian, Hilary has studied and practiced many forms of yoga, healing arts, massage & bodywork and dance since the early 1980's. She received teacher certificates in Iyengar and Vinyasa yoga (Iyengar Institute Amsterdam (2001), It's Yoga (Ashtanga Vinyasa (2001), Shiva Rea's Vinyasa Flow (2004-9) and is recognized by Yoga Alliance as an experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT500) since 2006. She has studied with numerous known and unknown yogis to whom she is ever grateful, and which she finds a silly exercise to mention all their names in a bio! She is teaching primarily a lyrical form of vinyasa yoga, a fluid but precise, dynamic yet relaxed method that incorporates the breath as a focus of moving meditation. She teaches with sensitivity and strength, letting people discover what yoga can bring to their life in a real and tangible way. Breath is always a theme in her work, but equally understanding and feeling what you are doing. Alignment is a key ingredient and joy a natural outcome of her teaching. Sometimes you will laugh, cry or dance in her classes! Hilary is a committed yogi that will help you take a step closer to yourself.

Hiske was born and raised in the Netherlands. Her first contact with yoga was at the age of 11, through the book The king, the cat and the fiddle by Yehudi Menuhin. Intrigued by the yoga poses Menuhin described for young violinists, she started exploring Hatha Yoga. Years later, as a student and part-time group fitness instructor, she started to take yoga classes regularly. A couple of years after discovering Yoga Moves and taking classes with Hilary, she enrolled in the teacher-training program, and started to teach when she finished it.

Since that time she completed the three-year Iyengar yoga teacher-training program at the Iyengar Yoga Institute in Amsterdam with Clé Souren, Charles Hond and Annemieke Post. She is a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher since 2009. Along with her teacher training she participated in many workshops with internationally renowned teachers, amongst others a workshop with BKS Iyengar in Moscow, and a 7-day intensive with Geeta Iyengar in London. She continues to take regular classes and workshops with several senior Iyengar Yoga teachers. In 2010 she studied for a  month with the Iyengars at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Institute in Puna, India. Since 2011, she is certified at the Junior Intermediate 1-level.

“The body is the most important instrument we learn to play. Yoga assists me in making and keeping my body strong and healthy, gives me mental calmness and clarity. In my classes I hope I can help others to experience the same.”

A competitive swimmer and passionate surfer for many years, I am used to dealing with the constraints of tight, short muscles. My personal experience has taught me what Pilates and yoga can do for your body, particularly when combined with the right food, sleep and attitude.

With a natural thirst for knowledge and new experiences, I have traveled extensively throughout my life, and love the energy that movement, nature, music, creativity and self-awareness can bring. It is an honor to help each of my clients increase awareness of their bodies, minds and souls and tap into the energy that lies within them!

A certified Pilates instructor since 2007, I use both mat and reformer in my classes (a special machine for Pilates exercises). Working with all kinds of clients has deepened my fascination for the human body, health and wellbeing.

In December 2010 I qualified as an Ashtanga Yoga teacher and in 2011 I became certified in Vinyasa yoga at the Yoga Moves Teacher Training program Utrecht. My passion for yoga has led and still leads me to classes and workshops across the world.

My ongoing thirst for new awareness and connection and my natural curiosity mean I constantly seek opportunities to learn how I can better serve those I meet. In addition to my yoga and Pilates practice, I am constantly inspired by music of all kinds, the natural world around us, travel to new places and the people I encounter.

I look forward to sharing my passion, knowledge and awareness with you.

Ever since her childhood, classical and modern ballet have been Jose’s passion. In her teenage years she became interested in psychology and philosophy and since then has become more engaged in self-development, increasing her awareness and enjoying the magic of the present moment. After studying Journalism and, in part Social Therapy, Jose worked for a few years as a therapist in various institutions in Holland. Unsatisfied with that line and method of work, she decided to look for a different and more holistic way of working with people.

Jose started practicing yoga seriously in 2006, in Barcelona, and was greatly inspired by its potential for healing at a physical, emotional and spiritual level. She saw the possibilities of combining her interests, therapeutic and dance experiences with yoga classes. After a Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) of 200 hours Yoga Alliance (YA) in August 2006, she started teaching a mix of Hatha, Vinyasa and Vini Yoga (Yang Yoga) in Barcelona. At the end of 2006 she discovered Yin Yoga and since then, this has been her primary passion and specialization. Jose started teaching Yin Yoga classes in 2007.
Jose’s classes are guided in a warm, clear and hopefully humorous way, with compassion by adapting the practice where necessary to the student’s specific needs. She encourages you to experience, observe and become aware of your bodily sensations, emotions, quality of breath, intuition, thoughts and habitual patterns. Her goal is to stimulate you to discover, to strengthen, to trust, to accept and to be happy with yourself the just the way you are.

Jose has completed several workshops and a Yin Yoga YTT (200hYA) with Paul Grilley, several workshops with Sarah Powers, a Vini Yoga immersion with T.K.V Desikachar in India and a couple of Anusara Yoga immersions. Jose has also studied other styles of Yoga including Yoga Dinámico, Iyengar anKriya Vajra Yoga. She is a regular practitioner of Vipassana and Shamatha Vipaysana meditation.

kataBorn in Geneva, Switzerland, Kata has been living in Switzerland and Hungary, she moved to the Netherlands in september 2012. Her spiritual journey started at the age of 15, but only at 24 she felt the deep desire to rebirth herself. After a succesful and sparkling expressive period as actress, radio show host, she found herself in a „personal retreat” to discover who she truly is.  The inward journey led her to selflove, nurturing and new clarity about life, her path and the passion of the soul.

She immersed herself in bodyworks, healing modalities, and the conscious breathing.
Her life became much more grounded, abundant and full, and naturally she felt the wish to share her wisdom and experiences with others. As spiritual coach, she has a wide clientele from all over the world, coming for clarity, and soulful guidance.  She presents regulary consciousness workshops, and therapist trainings, as well as soul-body retreats in many countries together with her Partner. And still, one of her biggest passion is Yoga!

Kata started yoga in 2007 with Iyengar Yoga, gratefully receiving the basic essence of each asana. Then came the dynamic Yoga, (Vinyasa Flow and Astangha Vinyasa) and in the meantime she completed her Children’s Yoga Teacher Training as well. In 2009 she discovered Shiva Rea, and her Prana Flow Yoga, that felt like a homecoming to her Soul. So Kata started the  Prana Flow Teacher Training, she keeps training with Shiva Rea regularry, and she is now completing her Birthlight Pre & Post Natal Training as well.

In her classes she invites you to connect in a dynamic way with your body very consciously, to become the movement and the flow. You will be inspired to liberate your creativity, and let go of your limitations. In her restorative classes you can experience deep soulful rejuvenation. Kata’s  enthusiasm and radiating joy will support you in connecting deeper with Your own Source.

As a child Liese had heard a bit about yoga but had actually gotten the impression that this was something for pregnant and older women. She did end up trying a class and to her surprise was sold immediately. It was clear that the physical movement not just moved the body but also moved the emotions and brought the mind to a quiet place. After a few years of following classes she noticed the many changes in her life and this led her eventually to India where she completed the Sivananda Teachers Training course. This was an intensive experience with focus on all aspects of yoga including meditation, chanting, philosophy and of course asanas and pranayama. It was a real feeling of coming home and she decided to join as staff in the Sivananda organisation. This meant a few years of teaching extensively on all aspects of yoga and lots of traveling, a wonderful combination. In 2002 it was time to return to her roots in The Netherlands and here Liese teaches yogaclasses & retreats since. In the last few years Liese has followed several courses in yoga for women and simultaneously as an ayurvedic practitioner.

Liese is a certified Birthlight prenatal, postnatal and wellwoman teacher focusing on yoga for women's health at all stages of life – during pregnancy, postnatally, around menstruation and menopauze. As an Ayurvedic Pracitioner Liese gives private consultations and treatments and is part of the teaching faculty at the Academy of Ayurvedic Studies in Amsterdam.

She founded ‘Yoga on the Spot’ in 2010 and ‘Yogabite’ in 2012 and she collaborates with various Yoga teachers to initiate various creative Yoga concepts. She took her first Yoga class at the age of 18 to find some peace and tranquillity within herself and continued to practice ever since. Yoga offers her space, tranquillity and softness. A place where everything is equally silent for a while. On the mat and also off the mat she strives to create a place where everyone feels at home, safe and secure. Her classes are playful and creative and her way of teaching is said to be precise, compassionate and affectionate. Like a teacher once said about her: “A great teacher with eye for detail”.

Yoga has been a journey to awareness and spirituality. Met haar comeback op de yogavloer in 2012 is er een integratie van technieken en theorieën, die middels haar enthousiaste en persoonlijke stijl in haar lessen kunnen worden ervaren.

During his days as a professional dancer Pascal discovered the amazing capacity of yoga to both relax and energize and give you a more focused mind as a bonus! And it’s that discovery he likes to share with you!

As a young kid Pascal dreamt of being a gymnast and made up all kinds of acrobatic movements and balances. Later his fascination with movement led him to practice martial arts like pencak silat and capoeira. As a teenager he caught the breakdance-bug and eventually turned his dedication to the art of bboying into a professional career. A few years later a friend took him to a yoga studio and to his amazement a lot of the moves he made up as a kid were actually existing yoga postures. He also recognized many postures and meditation techniques from his pencak silat days.

‘From day one I felt like coming home and I knew this was something that would stay with me for the rest of my life.. I soon discovered that yoga was not only very beneficial for my body but even more so for my mind.’

Pascal is trained in the Vinyasa Krama style of yoga with a teaching certificate from the SvahaYoga school in Amsterdam. You can expect a light-hearted, sometimes challenging class, with clear instructions and funky music!

Suzan Lemont has a B.S. degree in Dance & Dance Therapy, and a Masters in Intermodal Expressive Arts Therapies. Starting to dance rather late (at the ripe old age of 19), she felt stiff and ungraceful, completely lacked coordination and balance, and was generally out of touch with her own body. Through exposure to and practice of Kripalu Yoga, Dance Improvisation, Contact Improv, Body Mind Centering/Experiential Anatomy, and multiple other systems of body-mind-spirit-expanding techniques her body, and general state of being began to change dramatically. Having struggled much of her life to deal with the impact of moderate (and undiagnosed) Attention Deficit Disorder and periodic depression, she was amazed and grateful to discover the power and potential within these practices. Suzan has been teaching for over 30 years, for all kinds of populations, age groups, people with various needs and stories, and feels honored to be part of other people’s own discovery and growth process. Besides teaching body-mind-spirit classes, Suzan is a mother of two teenage daughters; a writer; philosopher; avid health food cook; and a practicing Expressive Arts Therapist/Educator/Consultant and a researcher on the role and importance of the arts in education and for peace building/conflict transformation. You can get in contact outside of class at suzanlemont@gmail.com, or visit her blog at www.pandoraspearls.com
