Mindfulness Meditation and Yin Yoga
How do we take yoga off the mat and into our lives?
By being mindful.
In joining meditation with yoga we create a practice that is based on being present.
In this class we will practice meditation and yin yoga. You will be introduced to the mindfulness practice of Shamatha which trains us to be present.
What is Yin Yoga? It is a quiet, slow and stationary practice with a sense of core softness and surrender. Yin yoga cultivates an attitude of non-striving and emphasizes ‘being’ rather than ‘doing’. It is a complement to the other forms of active yoga. The yoga poses are held from 3 to 5 minutes and therefore it works close to the bones on the connective tissue which is where the chi flows. Chi is our life force energy.
Each class will consist of yin yoga and guided meditation, silent sitting practice and a short talk on the view of meditation. You will come away from this course with the ability to have a daily yin yoga and meditation practice. It is appropriate for newcomers as well as returning or experienced students. It will be taught in English.
