The Vital Principles of Yoga: The key to unlocking the deeper powers in your body.

The eight Vital Principles are designed to bring you to a more energetic approach of your body and Yoga practice. The application of them is meant to give your body the maximum inner space, fluidity , ease and joy. This is only possible if we apply listening to the body from a ‘meditative state of mind’ and move from there. This state of mind guides all actions, it unlocks the power of your energy, increases your stamina and brainpower. Practicing from this state of mind makes your body move fluidly, harmonious and graceful.

In these four workshops you will learn how to apply the eight Vital Principles of Yoga in your own practice. Also will we explore how to practice the more advanced asanas, such as backbends and bakasanas. Beside the asana program we will go deeply into the practice of pranayama and meditation (Advaita style). Although all the Vital Principles will be addressed in each workshop, two of them will be explored in depth, in each of the four workshops, so that at the end of the workshop cycle you have a firm understanding of the Vital Principles and how to apply them in your practice and daily life.

Workshops with Johanna are dynamic and intensive, they are open for students who have been practicing Yoga for at least a year and are curious how to deepen their practice further.

Teacher Biography:

Johanna van der Schaft

Johanna has been practicing and studying Yoga and meditation since 1978.The power of sitting (meditation), breathing and body alignment she learned from Satipatthana Master John Garrie. She studied and practiced for nine years with Dzogchen Master Namkhai Norbu Rimpoche from whom she learned Yantra Yoga (Trulkor). For almost two decades she has studied closely with Dona Holleman and was responsible for the publication of Dona’s books, ‘Dancing the Body of Light’ and a re-issue of ‘Centering Down.’
Since 1993 she has been a student of the work of A.H. Almaas. This work has influenced her to a contemporary spiritual path where depth psychology and traditional spiritual understanding is woven into a penetrating practice.

“What inspires me most about Yoga is that it gives us the chance to discover who we are in essence. It gives us the chance to fully embody ourselves on all levels of being! My teachings are designed around the metaphysical approach of empowerment through insight, understanding and embodiment.”
