Styles of Yoga
We offer a number of different styles of yoga and a number of different levels. Many people ask us what type of yoga to start with…the most important thing to consider is the level of the class. Most of our beginner’s classes will give a similar foundation to yoga practice and are complementary to one another. (Tip: use the highlighted titles to get more information!)

Anusara Inspired Yoga

Anusara (a-nu-SAR-a) means "following your heart," or "to move with the current of divine will" and is described as heart-oriented, spiritually inspiring, yet grounded in a deep knowledge of outer- and inner-body alignment. These classes combines vinyasa (postures flowing with the breath) with postures held for longer periods of time in which alignment will be addressed. We will playfully explore yoga postures using Anusara's Universal Principles of AlignmentTM. These clear and elegant principles allow the body, breath and spirit to align for optimal strength, freedom and joy.

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga

The Ashtanga approach is composed of energetic series of asanas linked to the breath in a “moving meditation”. Often referred to as 'aerobic' or 'power' yoga, Ashtanga uses sun salutations to build heat and detoxify the body. Modified Primary Series classes (level 1-2) follows the main line of the primary series sequence but with modifications.

Ashtanga Vinyasa Primary Series

This is a longer led class that will take you through what is called the "Primary Series". This is a challenging and deep flow of 72 postures, which can take between 1.5-2.5 hours to complete. Leave your ego at home and enjoy. Recommended:6-12 months experience. Offered occasionally (see Yoga Special), we ask a small extra fee since the class is longer.

Hatha Flow

Inspired by a blend of Hatha yoga traditions, these Hatha Blend classes are taught by teachers who study more than one yoga discipline. A unique approach to integrating the teachings of different lineages creates an eclectic and integrative experience. At Yoga Moves our Hatha Yoga Flow classes are generally softer than the vinyasa based classes.

These are pre-registered courses for beginners to yoga or to dyanamic yoga. We aim to give you a foundation course on how to work safely and with pleasure. Given in Dutch or English (see specific course and teacher. Starts at different moments throughout the year.

Precise alignment of the muscles, bones and joints describes the main focus of Iyengar yoga. Iyengar classes focus on the details, and often use props to align their bodies into its ideal positioning. Poses are then held and time is givin in each posture to work into the natual alignment of the body and to the core.

Pilates Plus

Pilates tones up the torso like no other discipline. The abs, hips, buttocks and lower back work together as the body's "powerhouse", and all other movements are generated from this area outward. Pilates movements challenge the deeper, often neglected abdominal muscles, creating an amazingly strong core. The “plus” refers to the fact that our classes always include some yoga stretches.

Power Yoga (Power Vinyasa)

In a power class you can expect to work with principles of vinyasa, heat, attention to alignment, holding longer and core work (abdominal, strength building focus). We are introducing “warm” classes, where the room is warm and you can plan to help to detox through sweating and working with the heat to help you open.

Sivananda Hatha Yoga

A gentle approach, which takes the student through a basic sequence of pranayama, sun salutations, chanting, classical yoga postures and a long final relaxation. Between the postures there is time to rest, relax and rejuvenate. All levels welcome.

Slow Flow Yoga

This class balances the yang quality of a slow vinyasa flow with the yin qualities of longer holds, restoratives, deep relaxation and meditation. We follow a traditional flow of asanas, hold longer, have more stillness in-between and work with more sitting and ground-based postures.

Sunday Special

We rotate teachers and styles in the mini-workshop formatted class...a little longer to give you a chance to explore some extra elements each time.

Vinyasa Yoga

A vigorous, dynamic style which links breath and movement through a heat building sequence of postures that build awareness and depth and meditative flow. Vinyasa means to flow, to stay awake, to be connected to the circular nature of things. These classes can be slow, strong and thoughtful or sometimes very demanding with a stronger pace.

Yin Yoga

Yin yoga is a specific style of yoga where you move into long held poses, releasing muscular tension, open deeply into your joints and allowing resistance to melt. Delicious.
