What Is a Mantra Singing Circle?
Mantra singing is a traditional practice within Bhakti Yoga where sound is used to support focus and regulate the breath. Short phrases are repeated in a steady rhythm, allowing attention to settle through listening and vocal expression.
In a Mantra Singing Circle, participants sit together while these mantras are sung collectively. The melodies are intentionally simple and repetitive. This structure makes the practice accessible for people who feel comfortable singing as well as for those who prefer to listen and gradually join.
The session begins with gentle movement and simple pranayama. These exercises help warm up the body and prepare the voice. From there the group moves into mantra chanting accompanied by live music. The repetition of sound creates a shared rhythm in the room, which many people experience as grounding.
The circle is guided by Véra Capou and Emre Veçhi. Véra’s work focuses on voice liberation. She supports participants in exploring their voice in a relaxed and accessible way. Emre is a musician and sound healer who works with handpan and rhythm as part of his approach to sound and self-healing.
Mantra singing has long been used in yoga traditions as a meditative practice. The repetition of sound can help regulate breathing and bring attention back to the present moment. Because the melodies are simple, the practice remains accessible for people with different levels of experience.
During the circle, participation can take different forms. Some people sing from the beginning, others listen and join when they feel ready. The shared sound develops naturally through repetition and attentive listening within the group.
You can join Véra and Emre for the Mantra Singing Circle every Friday from 20:00 to 21:15 at Studio One.
