What Moves You: Gunjan

A long-held wish to study yoga, with time to let it settle.

Gunjan had wanted to do a yoga teacher training for a long time. She imagined travelling to India for it, but taking a whole month away was difficult to fit around work and everyday life. When she found the Ashtanga teacher training at Yoga Moves, she saw a way to explore yoga further while continuing her life here.

“I always wanted to do a teacher training, maybe in India,” she says. “This was like a dream forever.”

Gunjan has been practising at Studio Terwijde since it opened. She attends Vinyasa classes and has increasingly been drawn to Ashtanga. She was looking for structure in her life, alongside a practice that could help her develop strength and flexibility. Ashtanga brought those wishes together.

In March 2026, she began the Ashtanga teacher training with Marilou van Hoek at Studio FLY. The format mattered to her. With the training spread over several months, she could give herself time to absorb what she was learning between sessions.

“It spread out so that I can digest whatever I was doing in this longer period of time.”

Her interest in yoga philosophy also connects with her upbringing. Gunjan grew up in India and studied Sanskrit as a language at school. For her, knowing the language helps her understand the feeling behind certain words and their deeper meaning.

The Bhagavad Gita remains a book she returns to when she feels restless or needs an anchor. Reading a passage helps her calm down and find peace.

“Whenever I feel I need some anchor points in life, or when I’m feeling restless, I go to my Bhagavad Gita to read something.”

Through her classes at Terwijde and the training with Marilou, Gunjan has found a way to give her long-standing interest in yoga a place in her life here, with time to practise and absorb what she learns.
