Annemarie de Wissel
Annemarie de Wissel is a yoga teacher and physical therapist. She completed her Ashtanga teacher training at Yoga Moves in 2021 and followed two Somatic trainings in 2022 and 2023 with Liliana Nuno at Yoga Moves. In addition to Ashtanga and Hatha Somatic, she developed her own style of chair yoga for people with Parkinson’s disease. Pranayama is also a deep interest of hers, as it brings her yoga practice to a more meditative level.
At Yoga Moves, Annemarie has the unique ability to draw on her background as a physical therapist in her classes, creating a welcoming environment for everyone. She is skilled at finding alternatives when a pose doesn’t serve a student at a particular moment.
During her classes, Annemarie often walks around and observes her students, offering personal guidance to support them in deepening their practice. When appropriate, she uses hands-on adjustments to help them safely explore their poses.
Annemarie began practicing yoga and meditation as a teenager, inspired by reading books about Hatha yoga and meditation. A few years later, her curiosity led her to travel to India, where she explored different styles of yoga for several years. Since 2021, she has deepened her practice in Ashtanga yoga and discovered how Ashtanga and Pranayama provide the focus and guidance she had been seeking.
Through her teaching, Annemarie helps people become more conscious and feel more present—finding calmness and clarity to better observe what is happening in their body and mind. She invites her students to stay curious as they explore their own balance between challenging poses and moments of calm and ease.
When she is not teaching yoga, Annemarie works as a physical therapist at a hospital in Hilversum and a clinic in Zeist. She also enjoys sports such as bouldering and running, which she experiences as a beautiful complement to her yoga practice because of the mindfulness these activities bring to her movement and focus.
