What Moves You: Monique & Bengt
How a shared love of movement became an important part of their week.
Monique joined Yoga Moves in Utrecht in August 2011. Bengt followed a few months later. Today, they practise three times a week and yoga has become a familiar rhythm in their life together.
Movement was already an important part of their family. Monique used to teach physical education, while Bengt traces his love of movement back to his military service in Sweden.
“There you learn that it’s nice to be moving,” he says.
Their week usually begins with Simon’s class on Monday and continues with classes taught by Machena or Jorin. For Monique, the quality of the teachers is an important reason to keep returning.
“I’m pretty critical because I used to be a teacher of physical education myself,” she says. “Yoga Moves has high-quality teachers, always on level.”
Monique also likes to share that experience with others. When a friend came to visit from Australia, she took her to one of Simon’s classes. It is something she encourages more people to try.
“Just go. It doesn’t matter what age you are.”
For Monique and Bengt, moving together has been part of life for a long time. Since 2011, Yoga Moves has given that shared love of movement a regular place in their week.
“Yoga Moves is a big and important part of our week, and hence it’s an important part of our lives now.”
