THERAPEUTIC WISDOM OF YOGA | Anatomy, Physiology & Intelligent Alignment

With Doug Keller

Online Course

Understanding Why Yoga Works

Many yoga teachers learn poses.
Far fewer learn to understand the body.

Why does a movement help one student and aggravate another? How can we adapt yoga for different bodies, limitations and needs? And what is the relationship between movement, breath, pain, the nervous system and resilience?

In this online immersion, Doug Keller takes you beneath the surface of yoga practice to explore the principles that help us understand why yoga works—and why the same approach doesn't work for everyone.

Drawing from anatomy, physiology, movement science, myofascial research, breathwork and traditional yogic understanding, Doug brings these different perspectives together in a practical way that can transform how you see bodies, movement and yoga.

Known for his remarkable ability to make complex subjects accessible, Doug helps teachers move beyond memorizing anatomy or collecting alignment techniques.

Rather than memorizing anatomy, you'll learn to recognize patterns.
Rather than collecting techniques, you'll learn principles.

And rather than teaching poses in isolation, you'll begin to understand how movement, breath, alignment and awareness work together—and how to adapt these principles to the individual in front of you.

Yoga for Real Bodies

Yoga teachers increasingly meet students experiencing back pain, neck and shoulder tension, joint issues, limited mobility, chronic pain, stress or recovery from injury.

Supporting these students skillfully requires more than knowing the "correct" alignment of a pose. We need to understand how bodies move, compensate and adapt—and how breath and the nervous system influence our experience of movement.

This course gives you a practical framework for observing students more clearly, making intelligent choices and adapting yoga to different bodies and needs.

What You Will Explore

The Therapeutic Wisdom of Yoga

Explore yoga through both traditional and contemporary perspectives, including the relationship between movement, breath, nervous system regulation and wellbeing. Doug introduces the Vayus alongside modern physiology and considers how yoga can support resilience, recovery and self-regulation.

Joint Health & Functional Movement

Develop a clearer understanding of mobility, stability and healthy joint function. Learn to recognize common restrictions and compensation patterns and explore principles that support sustainable movement over time.

Myofascial Lines & Intelligent Sequencing

Explore the myofascial lines described by Tom Myers and how different areas of the body influence one another. Learn how these relationships can inform posture, movement, sequencing and therapeutic applications of yoga.

Spine, Hips & Sacroiliac Joint

Investigate the foundations of spinal and pelvic health, including flexion, extension and rotation. Explore common patterns associated with low back discomfort and sciatica, and the balance of mobility and stability around the hips, pelvis and sacroiliac joints.

Shoulders, Neck & Upper Body

Understand the principles of healthy shoulder mechanics and common patterns of restriction. Explore mobility and stability of the shoulders alongside considerations for the neck, wrists, elbows and hands in yoga practice.

Breath, Nervous System & Resilience

Explore the intimate relationship between breathing, movement and the nervous system. Learn about common breath patterns, the vagus nerve and ways conscious breathing can support regulation, recovery and wellbeing.

What You Will Take Into Your Teaching

You'll leave with a deeper understanding of anatomy and functional movement, greater confidence observing different bodies, and practical strategies for adapting yoga for common limitations and challenges.

Most importantly, you'll develop a framework for thinking rather than a collection of rules—helping you make more intelligent teaching choices based on the person in front of you.

The Most Effective Yoga Teachers Understand People—Not Just Poses

Therapeutic Wisdom of Yoga brings modern science and traditional yoga wisdom together to help you understand the relationships between anatomy, movement, breath and awareness.

The aim is not to turn yoga teachers into therapists. It is to help you see more clearly, understand more deeply and teach with greater intelligence, adaptability and care.

Dive into The ‘Big Picture’ of the
Therapeutic Wisdom of Yoga

Doug connects the science of anatomy and physiology to the ancient wisdom of yoga. It maken it all so logic what we experience. I even use his teachings in my medical practice.
