THE SYNERGY OF YOGA & AYURVEDA | Living & Teaching in Rhythm with Nature
With Jorien Langedijk
Yoga and Ayurveda are sister sciences, rooted in the understanding that we are not separate from nature.
Both traditions invite us to know ourselves more deeply—our body, mind, energy, habits, tendencies and relationship with the world around us.
Where yoga offers a path of practice and awareness, Ayurveda offers practical tools for self-care, balance and living in harmony with nature. Together they help us become more sensitive to the qualities present in ourselves, our students, the season and the wider environment.
From this deeper awareness, our practice and teaching become more responsive, relevant and alive.
In this 3-day immersion, Jorien Langedijk introduces the foundational principles of Ayurveda and explores how they can enrich your personal practice, lifestyle and teaching.
You'll learn to recognize the qualities of vata, pitta and kapha, understand constitutional tendencies, and explore how different yoga practices influence body, mind, digestion, energy and mood.
Learning Through Experience
Ayurveda, like yoga, is an embodied science.
Each day includes a practice inspired by one of the three doshas, giving you the opportunity to experience how different rhythms, postures, pacing, breath and energetic intentions create different effects.
Rather than simply learning Ayurveda intellectually, you'll begin to notice:
What qualities are present?
What is needed now?
What might bring greater balance?
This way of observing can transform how you approach both personal practice and teaching.
Yoga Through an Ayurvedic Lens
Instead of teaching one-size-fits-all yoga, Ayurveda gives us another way to understand individual needs and tendencies.
You'll explore how to adapt the quality, pace and intention of a practice according to what you observe—whether a student needs more grounding, cooling, stimulation, steadiness or spaciousness.
This is not about labeling students by dosha. It is about becoming more perceptive and developing a richer vocabulary for responsive teaching.
Living in Rhythm
Ayurveda also invites us to look beyond the yoga mat.
You'll explore the importance of agni, digestion, daily routines and seasonal rhythms, and consider how simple lifestyle choices can support steadiness, energy and wellbeing.
Seasonal awareness becomes another source of inspiration for practice and teaching: learning to work with the qualities of nature rather than against them.

A More Responsive Way to Teach
The aim of this module is not to turn yoga teachers into Ayurvedic practitioners.
It is to give you a clear and grounded foundation in Ayurveda that can enrich the way you understand yourself, observe your students and shape your teaching.
By learning to notice qualities, tendencies and changing conditions, you develop another important teaching skill:
The ability to ask not simply
“What should I teach?” but
“What is needed now?”
This module strengthens several key capacities within the Advance Your Yoga training:
Embodied practice: Students experience the doshas directly through practice, not only through theory.
Reading students: Ayurveda offers a practical lens for observing tendencies in energy, pace, effort, mood, and constitution.
Subtle energy: The study of elements, qualities, doshas, subdoshas, and tanmatras connects clearly to prana, vayus, and energetic teaching.
Personal development: Students reflect on their own constitution, habits, cravings, rhythms, and self-care needs.
Responsive teaching: The module supports the larger 300-hour goal of teaching in a way that is alive, relevant, and rooted in real observation.
Ayurveda invites us to see the whole person—and to teach accordingly.
Yoga and Ayurveda are sister sciences, rooted in the same deep understanding that we are not separate from nature. Both traditions invite us to know ourselves more intimately: our body, mind, energy, habits, tendencies, rhythms, and relationship with the world around us.
Where yoga offers a path of practice, awareness, and self-realization, Ayurveda offers practical tools for self-care, balance, and living in harmony with nature. Together, they help us refine our perception. We begin to notice the qualities present in ourselves, our students, the season, the time of day, and the wider environment. From this more sensitive and embodied awareness, our practice and teaching become more skillful, responsive, and alive.
Enjoy this opportunity to work with Jorien.
