WINGS | Functional Movement, Embodied Flow & Soft Power

With Simon Rowe

Join the modern evolution of yoga through embodied awareness, functional movement and Soft Power.

Re-imagine your yoga. Move beyond familiar formulas and explore a more embodied, creative and intelligent way to practice and teach.

Drawing on a lifetime of experience in yoga and movement, Simon shares his approach to smart, responsive and embodied yoga practice. At the heart of WINGS is his S.M.A.R.T. Yoga approach—Somatic, Movement-inspired, Alignment-based, Responsive and Transformative.

This training brings together the wisdom of classical yoga with contemporary insights from functional movement, somatic principles and embodied practice. It is modern yoga with classical roots, designed for modern bodies and modern lives—the wisdom of East and West, a yoga for our time.

From ROOTS to WINGS

Where ROOTS explores the energetic intelligence of yoga through prana, breath, the vayus and energetic alignment, WINGS takes that inner awareness into movement.

Here we expand beyond familiar asana patterns through functional movement, movement diversity, embodied awareness and Soft Power. You’ll explore how a complete contemporary yoga practice can move, adapt and evolve while remaining deeply connected to breath, sensation and the inner experience of yoga.

S.M.A.R.T. Yoga — A Yoga for Our Time

Many students today want a yoga practice that feels physically complete and challenging. But in mixed-level classes, intensity cannot come only from increasingly difficult poses or endless repetitions of Sun Salutations.

Challenge can be created in ways that are intelligent, accessible and sustainable.

WINGS offers a more holistic approach, using whole-body movement, intelligent progression and complementary movement patterns to build strength and intensity without relying too heavily on advanced poses or repetitive movements that may create unnecessary stress.

Simon describes this approach as Soft Power: developing strength and intensity without becoming rigid, aggressive or disconnected from breath and sensation.

You’ll explore how a practice can be dynamic and challenging while preserving the sensitivity, awareness and inner presence that make yoga more than physical exercise.

Movement Diversity

The aim is not simply variety. The aim is integration.

Counterposing lies at the heart of this approach. Rather than repeatedly reinforcing one movement pattern, complementary movements are woven together so that each posture prepares, balances, counterposes or integrates what follows.

Forward folds may be balanced with backbends, stability with mobility, strength with fluidity, and activation with release.

Exploring a wider range of functional movement patterns invites us to experience the body holistically—to move as one interconnected whole rather than as a collection of isolated parts.

Instead of repeatedly loading one movement pattern in service of a final pose, the practice develops strength, mobility, coordination and movement diversity throughout the whole body.

During this training, you’ll explore how to create dynamic, deeply embodied yoga and movement journeys through complementary movement patterns. You’ll learn to build practices that move through the whole body without becoming repetitive, rigid or predictable, cultivating greater fluidity, strength and freedom of movement.

“Awaken your energetic potency to ignite your passion for life. Connect to your inner light and follow the way of your heart. Live your love and embody your freedom.” – Simon

Moving From Within

Somatic principles begin with the ability to feel, listen and trust the intelligence of your own body.

In WINGS, you’ll learn to move from within: noticing where the body holds, where it softens, where movement flows and where it is interrupted. You’ll develop greater sensitivity to when effort is needed—and when effort can be released.

WINGS explores how strength and sensitivity, power and softness can support one another within the practice.

This goes beyond the yoga of making shapes or trying to make a practice look good. The body is not treated as an object to control, but experienced from within through sensation, breath and awareness.

By listening more closely to the nervous system, fascia, joints and the body as a whole, movement becomes an exploration rather than simply a series of instructions. Instead of commanding the body from pose to pose, we learn to inhabit it—to feel, investigate and experience movement as it unfolds.

This deeper awareness invites you to move closer to yourself, so that your yoga practice—even when challenging and powerful—can remain a journey of inner inquiry.

A practice that develops strength without rigidity, freedom without disconnection, and movement that brings you home to yourself.
