Back to Practice: Ashtanga Yoga Intensive
With Marilou van Hoek
2 Days in September
Refocus.
Rebuild.
Reignite.
Whether you’re feeling a bit rusty or already deep in your Ashtanga journey, this intensive offers space to grow. Each day begins with a guided Full Primary Series class, with options to modify, adapt, and explore according to your level. For more experienced practitioners, there will be time to dive deeper into transitions, binds, and those mysterious postures that often get glossed over in regular classes.
You’ll also explore lesser-known aspects of the Ashtanga system, such as:
The power of Ujjayi breath to regulate nervous system and mental focus
How Bandhas support lightness and integration in challenging postures
The art of Drishti and how visual focus supports mental stillness
Relearning transitions as a meditative practice, not just a movement
Subtle energetics and how they shift when we truly listen to our body
Day 1 — The Power of Practice
Sutra I.14: "Practice becomes firmly grounded when well attended to for a long time, without break, and in all earnestness."
Rediscover your commitment to the mat. We explore how to build (or rebuild) a sustainable personal practice, even amidst life’s chaos. This day is about showing up, not being perfect.
Day 2 — Clearing the Mind
Sutra I.2: "Yoga is the stilling of the fluctuations of the mind."
What happens when we begin to let go of struggle and drop into presence? We focus on breath, gaze, and subtle awareness to cultivate stillness in motion, even in the Primary Series.
Each day will include a short talk or reflection on a key Yoga Sutra theme, with practical ways to bring it into your practice and life:
Expect inspiration, sweat, laughter, and the shared experience of recommitting to your path. Whether your goal is to return to consistency, find a deeper flow, or simply reconnect with your body and breath—this weekend will meet you where you are.
