This 7 session online module explores subtle energetic practices, pranayama, meditation, and Tantra’s non-dual philosophy, bridging ancient wisdom with modern yoga.
Each session begins with a guided breath and energy practice, followed by an exploration of Tantric philosophy, subtle anatomy, and meditation techniques.
Doug will weave together these practices and help you find your way towards an authentic and cherished personal practice of them.

FOUNDATIONS OF PRANAYAMA & SUBTLE ENERGY 

Dive into breathing techniques: learn the important distinctions between emphasis on the diaphragm, and emphasis upon breath through the nostrils

  • Introduction to energetic breathing techniques:

    • Ujjayi and dimensions of the full breath (Dirgha pranayama)

    • Anulom/Pratiloma/ Nadi Shodhana – harmonizing the nervous system.

    • Surya/Chandra Bhedana (Sun & Moon Breaths) – balancing solar/lunar energies

    • Viloma — breath capacity and the power of the pause — kumbhak

    • Bhastrika (Bellows Breath) – for activation and vitality.

    • Kapalabhati (Skull-Shining Breath) – clearing mental fog and energizing the body.

  • Understanding the purpose and timing of breathwork in yoga practice & the relationship between breath and nervous system regulation.


THE ENERGETIC BODY & ADVANCED BREATHWORK  

Working with Prana & Bandhas, explore how integrating Mula, Uddiyana, and Jalandhara Bandha in practice refines energy movement.

  • Breath & bandhas as a bridge between asana and meditation; Treatment of mudra and drishthi in addition to bandha

Advanced Breathwork for Transformation

  • Breathwork for expansion, release, and energetic shifts; Layering breath, visualization, and mantra for subtle body activation; Pranayama as a gateway to meditative states.

TANTRA AS THE PHILOSOPHICAL BASIS OF MODERN YOGA 

Non-Dual Tantra & Its Influence on Yoga: What is Tantra? In these talks we will be debunking myths and exploring its true essence:

  • How Tantra’s non-dual perspective informs modern yoga; Key Tantric texts and their relevance to contemporary practice.

Applying Tantra in Teaching & Practice

  • Awareness-based yoga: integrating mindfulness, energy, and movement; Mantra & visualization as energetic tools in yoga; Bridging philosophy and asana: making subtle teachings practical.

KOSHAS & THE LAYERS OF AWARENESS 

The Role of Vayus in Movement & Energy Flow: Explore the five Vayus (energetic movements of Prana) & How they shape asana, movement, and breath practice.: Prana Vayu - Apana Vayu – Samana Vayu – Udana Vayu – Vyana Vayu .

How Koshas relate to asana, breathwork, and meditation: Annamaya (Physical Body) – Pranamaya (Energy Body) – Manomaya (Mental Body) – Vijnanamaya (Wisdom Body) – Anandamaya (Bliss Body).


PATHS TO MEDITATION 

Upayas are based in Tantric philosophy — they signify “skillful means,” or an action that helps others have insights. For an action to be upaya, it must be done with wisdom and compassion, and it must be appropriate in its time and place. The practices range in things such as mantra to inner silence meditation

Meditation Techniques for Subtle Awareness

  • Antar Mouna (Inner Silence Meditation) – cultivating inner listening.; Ajapa Japa (Spontaneous Mantra Repetition) – deepening concentration and flow; Mantra-based meditation for subtle energetic activation.

Yoga Nidra & Nervous System Restoration

  • The science behind Yoga Nidra’s effect on the brain and body; Explore various contexts and approaches to guiding Yoga Nidra practice effectively; Using Yoga Nidra for deep healing, relaxation, and transformation.
